How selection works

Path 1: Bachelor of Clinical Science/Doctor of Medicine

Macquarie assess ATAR and have a minimum English requirements for international students of IELTS of 7 overall and minimum of 7 in each band for the Bachelor of Clinical Science/Doctor of Medicine degree. In addition, applicants need to achieve satisfactory performance at interview.

Students selected for the combined program package secure guaranteed entry and are able to progress directly from the Bachelor of Clinical Science to the Doctor of Medicine degree if they are:-

  • an international student with an unconditional place in the Bachelor of Clinical Science/Macquarie MD pathway,

  • have completed the Bachelor of Clinical Science degree with a WAM of 70, and

  • achieved a WAM of 70 in the professional practice units.

Path 2: Bachelor of Clinical Science and Path 3:  Undergraduate or postgraduate degree

If you don't have a Path 1 guaranteed entry ticket, selection for the Macquarie Doctor of Medicine degree is the same as for other postgraduate medicine degrees - a 2 stage process (like many other universities):-

Stage 1:  As part of the application process, Macquarie require the submission of a Personal Statement. This involves students providing responses to 3 targeted questions pertaining to the medicine program.

Macquarie use the Personal Statement as a hurdle assessment requiring satisfactory completion and then ranks applicants for interview based on their combined GPA (50%) and MCAT/GAMSAT (50%), to determine who's offered an interview.

Stage 2: Your Interview (50%) and GAMSAT/MCAT (50%) results are combined to determine who's offered a place in Macquarie's University's medicine degree. Any ties are separated using applicants' GPAs.

Indigenous applicants are assessed for a place on a case by case basis.
